PREVAILING WINDS:
LOCAL CHARACTER: Remote area in the Northeast Plateau area of California. It is characterized as an agricultural/recreation region. Hay, strawberry plants and cow/calf operations are primary agricultural activities.
DESCRIPTION OF STATION SITE:
Located on a ranch that is operated as hunting club. The station is installed in a wire fenced enclosure in the middle of a large flood irrigated pasture. The pasture soils are sandy with droughty tendencies and is kept moderately irrigated. It is usually kept well grazed and managed. An evaporation pan is operated during the summer.

COMMENTS:
The pasture conditions can change almost overnight when irrigation practices change. As an example, when the irrigation well went dry, the pasture went from approximately 95% green groundcover on 8/1/90 to totally brown on 9/1/90. |
